Cars - Our New Best Friend
The first car was designed by the German mechanical engineer Karl Benz in 1885. Henry Ford invented the car’s transmission and improved the assembly line that Ransom Olds introduced in 1902. Cars have captivated the imagination and the interest of car lovers as well as the general public for the last 114 years. If we could count the number of cars in use around the world today, the figure would be around 600 million and growing daily.
The founding fathers of the auto industry are probably shaking their heads and laughing about the current situation that automakers around the world are facing. The U.S. auto manufacturers are certainly having a long overdue reality check, but the condition of the auto industry worldwide is in a state of change. Fossil fuels have finally brought the car industry to the table of awareness. New vehicles are being produced and tested in order to break the grip that oil and gasoline have on the auto industry. Automobile manufacturing and the cost associated with it are being scrutinized and changed drastically. A large portion of the auto labor force is being reduced. Modern technology is pushing car manufacturing into the twenty-first century with all the knowledge and expertise it can find.
Consumers and cars have had a love-hate relationship over the years. New auto prices and the depreciated values of older models have had a dramatic affect on the economy. Cars cost as much as a house in the specialty auto market; auto prices are at an all time high and the cost of financing a new car can take as much as twenty percent of a family’s income. The auto industry and the housing market have been the driving forces behind the American dream and it seems like America is beginning to wake up. But all of this is old news; the good news is cars are becoming our new best friend.
Thanks to the challenges and contrast the world is facing, new technology is being developed to remarry the consumer and the car in twenty-first century advancements. The days of being held captive by auto makers and car dealers is coming to an end. Within the next five to ten years the world will enjoy a new rejuvenated car industry that cares about more than the bottom line and expresses that fact in their business models.
